Microcrystalline Wax
If you’re an encaustic painter and love the accretion technique, this is the wax for you! Microcrystalline is an almost magical wax that is used primarily for sculpting and creating sculpted surfaces as it is more flexible and slightly more tacky than plain encaustic medium. This wax cake is mixed 50/50 with my special recipe encaustic medium so that it can be buffed.
This wax is petroleum based so it will yellow over time. For this reason, it will need to be mixed with color or painted over with a layer of color. Also, be aware that because it is petroleum based, you must have very good ventilation in your studio to work with this wax.
