May Collage Cut-Out Page Submissions

I was inspired to create cut-out pages by the Kolaj Institute, an organization that publishes a whole book of them to commemorate the start of KolajFest, their super fun collage conference in New Orleans. As a gift to my Newsletter subscribers, I’ve been creating cut-out pages with an inspiration challenge to get the ball rolling. Read on to see the May cut-out page and challenge, then view the work of brave artists, Bev Funnell and Nancy Hamann, who submitted their work to be published for this very first challenge. Thank you for participating!

The next Cut-Out Page and Challenge will be included in July’s Newsletter and published September 1. Only subscribers can participate, subscribe today!

May Collage Cut-Out Page and Challenge

To celebrate Kolaj Institute’s World Collage Day, my May Cut-Out Page is downloadable a bit early this month and also comes with a challenge.

When I put my own collages together, color is the first place I start. Pulling together diverse images in a certain color-way, rather than subject matter, brings together disparate imagery that when thoughtfully arranged makes visual sense and somehow creates a narrative.

This month Silver, Blue & Gold is the theme after listening to one of my favorite bands earlier this week. My challenge to you is to use what’s in the cut out page, combined with your own images, marks and mixed-media to illustrate the theme in your own way. You can use the song lyrics, make up your own poetry and/or your own story.
